Gingham Baby Blanket

I have fallen way behind on my Granny-a-Day Challenge.  Back in September, I bought a bag of granny squares already made for $3.  All I had to do was stitch them together.  There was probably more than 200.

I started with the white, light blue and dark blue squares, and based my blanket off a pattern in one of my granny square books.  I finished with a border of dc's in a soft fuzzy blue yarn from my yarn stash.

Granny's Corners Baby Blanket

So, the blanket is finished.  It  is small, only about 22"X28", but it looks to be a good size to cover a baby carrier/car seat.  I love all the pinks together.

I outlined each square in an off-white, and then crocheted v-stitches in different pinks with a row of single crochet in aran in between, and finished with a scallop edge in the aran color as well.

Tuesday's Tallies/ GAD 2012/WIP

With school starting this week  and some personal issues, I have not done a lot of crocheting.  I am combining a couple of posts into one.  I have ten squares of my Granny's Corners project, and I still have scraps of pink yarn left to use.  I may even get a 4 square X 4 square group that I can crochet around.  I guess we will see...

Granny's Corners Squares

In the group "A Granny A Day 2012" on Facebook, someone posted a picture of a blanket made with these squares in all different colors and bordered with black.  I decided to start mine in different shades of pink, and border mine in off-white.  I have made six so far.  We will see how far I get!

A Ta-Da for Tuesday

The baby blanket is finished, and I am really pleased at how it turned out.  I wasn't able to squeeze out a fourth orange square, so the blanket is a total of 24 squares.  It is about 30" X 24" and is just the right size for an infant or toddler.  I used a single crochet for a simple edging.  Another blanket I would love to keep, but have no real use for.  After all, I don't crochet these for personal use anyway.

Tuesday's Tallies/GAD Update

There is another color to my Starburst squares, and I am up to twenty-three.  I have nine of off-white, six of melon, six of aqua, and two of my newest color, orange.  I hope I can get at least two more out of the orange ball, and make a 5x5 square blanket, which will be about 30"x30."  That sounds like a good size for a baby blanket, right?

I just noticed that the squares look like different sizes, because the yarns are not all the same texture/weight, but close.  I hope it all works in the end.

Granny-A-Day and Tuesday's Tallies

There are twelve squares done now, and I have started a new color.  There are nine squares of the off-white, and I have picked an aqua as the third color.  It will most likely end up another baby blanket.

This Granny-a-Day project has been really helpful in stash busting!  My bins are emptying out.

Now I am going over to Gingerbread Girl to look at more One a Day projects.  Join us!

New Squares Project

When I saw the Filet Crochet Starburst Squares at Creative Jewish Mom, I decided that would be my next project.  I am using left-over sport weight yarn and a G hook.  I don't know what I will do with the squares yet, since I don't know how many squares I will be able to complete. More to come...

Granny Square Sundress

Another Granny-a-Day project, with 20 squares in the bodice, and granny stripes in the skirt.  The original pattern called for short sleeves, but I did my usual accomodations with the yarn I had.  Still haven't decided if I will gift it or donate it.

WIP Wednesday~ 7/11

Prayer Shawl
I have a knit and crochet project to show today.  My daughter says she doesn't have to ask me what I am working on any more, because prayer shawls and baby items are "all I do."  ; )   Yes, I do a lot of them.  They give me a lot of pleasure, to make something for someone else, since I can't do the things for my family as well as I'd like.  I think that is one reason I will never sell my items.  This is my mission.
Baby Dress

So I am repurposing yarn from previous projects I have made, that I no longer want.  The yarn for the shawl used to be a sweater, and the yarn for the dress used to be doll clothes for my daughter that has grown out of that stage.  I like to know someone else will use them well.

Ferris Wheel Square Baby Afghan

This afghan is part of my Granny-A-Day project.  It is made from worsted weight yarn scraps and a pattern I found in The Granny Square Book: Timeless Techniques and Fresh Ideas for Crocheting Square by Square by Margaret Hubert.  I like the color way, and have not decided what I will do with it yet.  It will either go to charity, or for another baby gift.

Spearmint Candy Cardigan

Front

Although this little jacket started out with a completely  different pattern, I really like the end result.  I had some medium sized balls of scrap yarn, left over from other projects. One was a pink baby sport weight yarn and the other was Bernat Baby Jacquards in Spearmint Candy Print.  It looked like enough yarn to make the pattern I selected, but when I ran out of yarn, I had none left for the sleeves.  So I decided to make the whole thing out of granny squares, and had enough yarn, with a small ball of sport weight white, to make the baby sweater with short sleeves.  Luckily, I had started with the 3 month size. :)

WIP Wednesday

I am working on two projects at the moment.  One is a Granny Stripes prayer shawl.  I am using up left over skeins of various worsted weights, and trying to combine the colors as I go.

The other project is a pair of fingerless gloves.  I am using this granny square design, crocheting four squares, two for front, two for back in each glove.  I have one glove completed, and will show the whole set when finished.

Finished Afghan

I was very surprised how fast this worked up. I really like the color combinations, and hope the receiver will appreciate the work I did. It will go to my church's charity for our local hospitals.

A Granny Square Shawl~Updated

I finished the second granny square shawl this past week.  It consists of 40 squares of different sizes, some from my BH & G Crocheting and Knitting book, some traditional squares, some from a book of designs I found online, and some I designed myself.  This is another shawl that will be given to my Prayer Shawl Ministry at church, and will be added to the other shawl and blanket I have done with my squares from the Granny-A-Day 2012 project.  I have about 30 squares still to catch up, having made 110 squares.  Next is a baby blanket of granny squares.

Granny-A-Day 2012 Update

After I finished my baby blanket (in March), I got way behind on my Granny-a-Day 2012 project.  Recently, I have picked it up again.  I found that I had enough squares to put together a prayer shawl with some squares I had done last year (for another project that didn't get sent) as well as the finished squares from this year.  It is amazing that even with all the different colors combined, it actually looks like it goes together!

I added a couple more squares in the prayer shawl, and have started a third project.

Granny a Day Week 7

Since finishing the baby blanket, I have gone back to crocheting granny squares from my BH&G Crocheting & Knitting book, using my stash.  However, I did make one special square that I found online for Valentine's Day.

Award Update

Since my original post about this award, I have had two other blog friends pass this award on to me as well. Because of my limited time related to health issues, I am only going to follow two of the rules, # 2 and #3.

2. Thank the blogger who gave it to you.
3. Mention 7 random things about yourself.

So, thank you Karisma (again), Tracey, and Mary.

Karisma was one of my first followers, when I discovered and posted on Tuesdays Tallies at Gingerbread Girl.  Like me, she crochets quite a bit, and enjoys taking pictures.  She lives in Australia, and maybe even lives in the same province as I did when I was there.  She blogs about her crocheting at Karisma's Kraft.

I "met" Tracey through Creative Every Day, and we are part of what I call a "mutual admiration society."  She also crochets and is participating in the Granny A Day 2012 project, like me.  She is also 40-something, and has a husband, two boys and a couple of pets. Her blog is called Whistle Stop Crochet

The third person to pass on this award to me is Mary.  She is one of my newer followers, through my new Linky Follower button.  I haven't done much posting about this, but we share the love of cooking, and both deal every day with a chronic illness.  It is wonderful to find people that understand a little better what I go though.  Mary's primary blog is Go Ahead...Take A Bite.

And now, seven more random things about me.

1.  I have lived in 21 houses/places in my (almost) 48 years.
2.  I was late at becoming a mom, for the first time, at 32 years old (young?).
3.  I married a man with two children (my bonus kids), and my daughter had her first child (a son) six months before I had my first, also a son.  My last grandchild (a granddaughter) was born 20 months after my last child (a daughter).  There is one other granddaughter in between.
4.  Before I had children, I was very active in community theater.
5.  I love to sing, but since I am a "working woman", I don't have the energy to participate in any choirs/groups like I did before Multiple Sclerosis.
6.  I write poems.  I post some of my poetry here, and some at Mlissabeth's Musings.  I also write small stones there, and if you click on the link above, it explains what they are.
7.  I am a foodie.  I love to cook, but don't do as much as I used to because of  a family of picky eaters and a lack of time.  But I still love to look at recipes online, and collect cookbooks.

Okay.  I wanted to share a little more, and acknowledge some good blog friends.  Mission accomplished.

GAD Tuesday's Tallies

So here is the latest on the Granny A Day/One a Day Rainbow Baby Blanket...32 squares, and 4 more to go, across the top.  It is getting so close, I should have a ta dah next week.  I am going to edge it in the traditional granny style of  3 dc, chain 1, and single crochet at the top.  I am getting really excited about finishing it.

You can see some more One a Day projects on Gingerbread Girl.
