Yesterday on Twitter, I got a tweet from Heather Mann @dollarcraft about a pattern for a No-Sew t-shirt tote. I was very enthused about making one, since I have a LOT of extra t-shirts that could be used for other things. When I finally got home last night for good, I took a shirt that used to be my daughter's and made one.
It even has a pocket in front, if I choose to use it, and is a perfect size for my latest crochet project.

Hat, Fingerless Gloves and Infinity Scarf Set
Hat and Gloves |
Infinity Scarf |
Detailed view |
I found some more yarn at Big Lots that I fell in love with. Luckily I noticed that the colors were already mixed, otherwise, I would have missed a couple of the skeins that went together. The colors of red orange, orange, yellow, green and a blue grey were all blended together, and made the yarn self-striping. I now have about four hat and scarf sets to wear, since I keep finding yarn I like!

Pretty Pink
This is the sweater I finished last night. It is a size 2. I will either give it to a friend's daughter, or donate it to the local Clothes Closet charity for kids whose families can't afford new clothes.

New Blog Title
I have changed my blog title to one that I think this blog is about. It comes from all my passions: crocheting, writing poems and acting, and my musical interests. I tell my husband those are my avocations, meaning I don't get paid for them. I think that if I did get paid for them, I might not enjoy them as much, and it would become a chore. Crocheting and writing are very therapeutic and relaxing for me.

Priorities
I thought I would play or dance and sing.
I thought I would do much more joyful things.
When my kids were little and I was young.
When life was simple and days were fun.
I thought my parents were a dreadful bore
When they took Sunday naps and taught me chores.
But now I'm the parent and I regrettably understand
How easily life gets hectic with balancing priorities the main plan.

Felted Slippersocks
This is my first try at felting, a process where you make a crocheted or knitted piece larger than you plan it to be, and use 100% wool. After the piece is finished, you can wash it in hot water, and the fibers get agitated, break down, shrink, and create a more dense, smaller, and fuzzier piece.
I made some slippersocks, and thought they would either be for me, or for my husband, depending on what size they turned out. They did not shrink quite as much as I thought they would, so, here he is modeling his new socks.
What new techniques have you tried lately?

The Dawn of a Year
Let me look forward toward 2011.
With this day starts the new year.
Relishing all that is to come,
And leave behind regrets and fear.
Although it seems just another day,
Somehow it is divine.
A day of new beginnings,
A day for changing time.
The whole year is ahead of me,
The past should stay the past,
Creating each day is an exciting purpose,
Savoring each memory to last and last.
